Purab Kohli on quitting TV for Bollywood

Talking about taking a break from TV to further his career in Bollywood, Purab said, “Jab main Channel V mein tha, around the time I was shifting towards films, toh kissne bataya ki, ‘Tum TV pe bohot aate ho, TV band karo, fir pictures aur ayegi.’ At that time, the thought was if you come on TV daily, especially on shows on Channel V, it creates an image that people like to see you. It becomes difficult to break the mould and play another character. So I said, ‘Good point’.”

She continued, “Do saal ke liye I stopped TV and was waiting for films to happen. During that time, films like Woh Lamhe, Awarapan and Rock On!! happened for me – all back-to-back. That was the period I stopped doing TV completely. Uss time ghar pe bohot baitha tha. It was 3 years, and I did only 3 films and I was free the rest of the time. In TV we used to work daily. So I was used to that daily cycle and this was no work.”

Talking about his side gig at this time, he continued, “During this period, I worked with an AD film production house and I produced several advertisements. That was one side thing I started doing as I wanted to work. I wanted to do something in this business only (to earn money) because I like the entertainment business, I like films. I love being on a shooting set. To be a brand ambassador for a project is fine but to start a business all out is hard cause it will distract me from my creative work.”
